L.A. Confidential

Medical Marijuana 100% Legal under Michigan law. Grown in Marquette.

About this strand:
100% Indica
Origins- California Indica X Afgan Indica
Recommended flowering time- 46-56 days
Discovered by- DNA Genetics
LA Confidential is a commercial seed strain that captures the genetics of OG Kush. An Afghan strain grown from clones, OG Kush first became popular in the Los Angeles market in the 1990s, and then became world famous as California rappers like Snoop Dogg and Cypress Hill namechecked it in their songs. OG Kush offered a has-like experience from reefer: a resinous smoke, deep and spicy-sweet like nutmeg, that drew the smoker into a lush, slightly trippy dreamland. While "Authentic OG Kush" may be hard to find if you're not a rap star, DNA's LA Confidential brings the secrets of this celebrity smoke to the market.
LA Confidential is an indoor-adapted plant that can also be grown outdoors or in a greenhouse. This strain is resistant to mildew, and on the whole is easy for even a novice to grow. She likes any medium - hydro, coco beds, soil, or NFT systems. If forced into flowering at 3-4 feet of growth, LA Confidential stays petite, gaining only a foot in the rest of her cycle, making her a good strain for gardeners with limited space. DNA themsleves prefer bigger plants, vegetated for 3-4 weeks, for a lower overall plant count. Like many eco-conscious growers, DNA recommends organic nutrients.
As she moves through flowering, LA Confidential forms popcorn-like buds that are very dense, and so dark green that they almost appear black by harvest time. The flowering time is speedy, finishing in 7-8 weeks indoors, or by late September to early October when grown outside. These are the sweet "rocks" of resinous bud associated with her OG Kush ancestors. LA Confidential is not the biggest yielding strain, with average yields between 300-500 grams per square meter from "petite" plants in close quarters; yields from larger or outdoor plants may be correspondingly greater.
LA Confidential delivers a heavy "Kush" high: tasy, languorous, and a little psychedelic. Experienced smokerswill find it relaxing but not sleepy, although probably too relaxing if there are complex tasks to be done. This is a chill-out smoke. What this strain lacks in monstrous yields it makes up for in high, taste, and smell. Many weed experts agree - LA Confidential has won second (2005) and third (2004) place for indica at the High Times Cannabis Cup, and first place for indica in the international Cannagraphics Cup (2005).

*Note that dates on actual pics that say 2007 are not accurate because of camera settings. Dates above pics should be accurate if not only within about a day off. All pics have been modified from the originals because Angelfire only allows 20 mbs of space. If these pics are seen anywhere else they were used without permission.

    Minor mistakes:
Should have vegetated for only 20-30 days. Started in cups not pots. Fox Farm Ocean forest some say may be too high in nutes for small plants. Burnt plants should have been flushed more and sooner.

    Day 1 April 6th
    seeds germinated

    Day 5 April 10th
10 sprouted, 2 others germinated. Watered with Big Bloom 2 tsp/gal water.

    Day 9 April 14th
14 sprouted total. 2nd leaf set on some. Possible slight nute burn.

Pics of plants just starting on April 16th.

    Day 13 April 18th
3rd leaf set developing, some flimsy. May have over watered.

    Day 15 April 20th
    About half look good.

April 20th pic. Some are a bit slower but ok.

    Day 16 April 21st
12 potted. Other 2 that sprouted now planted. 1 ok other is poor.

    Pics from the 21st.

    Day 20 April 25th
All look excellent except a few look slower. Some ready for topping

    Day 22 April 27th
Topped most. Accidentally cut off fan leaf.

    Day 23 April 28th
Topped others except for 1 which may be too small.

    Day 24 April 29th
    All Excellent!

    Day 25 April 30th
Topped last one. Trimmed top of new leaves instead (Attempted FIM Technique). Another has 4 branches. Added nutrients- 2 tsp/gal Big Bloom and 2 tsp/gal Grow Big. All Excellent!

    Day 27 May 2nd
Some fan leaves curling. Pics taken

Pics from May 3rd. Notice how about after a week of topping, the main stem stops but 2 side branches take over.

Pics from May 4th. Side branches continue to get bigger.

    Day 30 May 5th
Leaves still curled. Slightly worse. May have nute burn on some and/or over watering

    Day 34 May 9th
Switched to Reverse Osmosis water. 4 gallons used total. Topped and fimmed all except 1.

    Day 35 May 10th
Topped last one. All plants getting very bushy.

Pics from May 10th. Notice how plants are getting bushy from the previous topping.

    Day 38 May 13th
Branch accidentally broke off. Attempting to make it a clone.

    Day 39 May 14th
Clone was at first successful. The first day it was drooping down but the next day picked itself right up. However it eventually died probably due to being too far from the light or possibly not buried enough in soil.

    Day 41 May 16th
Clone was starting to die. Plants huge! pics also.

Pics from May 16th. Flowering should have been started at this point. Plants' height surpassed expectations while flowering.

    Day 43 May 18th
Plants waist high. 3 tsp/gal Grow Big. 6 gallons used.

    Day 44 May 19th
Flowering begins. Switched to HPS bulb on 12/12 cycle. MH was in use for 44 days for 1,056 hours.

    Day 48 May 23rd
Watered with 2 tbsp/gal Big Bloom 6 gallons total. Height around waist high. Some top leaves yellowish.

    May 24th Pics below.

    Day 50 May 25th
First sign of hairs and pistols.
Predicting will be ready on day 111.

May 26th pics. Notice what appears to be a cluster of 6 branches. The 2 bottom ones are actually fan leaves, not branches. The 4 above are the newer branches formed from fimming.

11 pointed leaves have grown. Here is an example.

    Day 52 May 27th?
    Watered w/ Tiger Bloom

    pics from May 27th below

May 28th pic. Look closely in the mid area of the plant, you can just barely notice white hairs forming, a for sure sign of female. Sometimes new leaf growth is mistaken for hairs. This is the ONLY way to tell for sure if your plant is a female unless you are growing from clones or feminized seeds. Some people swear their are other ways to tell such as how the leaves look or rate of growth. These and any other method are all false. You can only tell by waiting for hairs/pistols or pollen sacks to form. These are the plant's sex organs. Females can also turn hermaphrodite by producing pollen sacks from genetics or being too stressed such as having light leaks or improper light cycle. The one good thing about hermaphrodites is if they pollinate another female plant the seeds will be feminized but also have a chance of turning hermaphrodite themselves by carrying certain genes. Some people even purposely stress a plant to produce feminized seeds. It happens because the male has the XY chromosome. The female is XX. You cross a male and female, you have a debatable 50/50% chance of male/female. I don't know why but hermaphrodites have the XX chromosome like females. So if they cross the offspring will be XX no matter what because the Y is non existent.

Zoomed in circled in green you can see the hairs starting. circled in purple are actually NOT hairs or even related to plant sex. They're just growth from where a new branch that grows between the main stem and the big fan leaves. You can tell the difference because the hairs are white and somewhat curly. That other look alike growth at this point is green and straight, not curled. They will eventually turn brown, curl, and die off. The actual hairs will ripen, eventually turning reddish/orange then brown. The hairs also grow out of little pistols but are hard to see in this pic. this is where THC crystals form. It is very sticky and any pistol that collects pollen will produce a seed.

    Day 57 June 1st
    Hairs on tops very noticeable

    Pics from June 2nd.

    Day 64 June 8th?
    Watered w/ Big Bloom 4 tbsp/gal

    Day 67 June 11th
Watered w/ Tiger Bloom 1 tbsp/gal. Crystals developing.

June 13th Pics. Although it is normal for lower growth to eventually die off, it was more than normal in this case because their is not enough lighting. The main light was raised too high and side lighting was not added. This was not harmful to the plants, however time and energy were wasted.

However the buds on the tops are forming very nicely.

    Day 72 June 16th
One has yellow fan leaves. Cut off a few bad ones. Nute burn bad on one.

    Day 73 June 17th
Watered with straight water. Extra water to burnt plant to dilute nutes. Light raised all the way. Branch broke but fixed. Buds look excellent!

    Day 78 June 22nd
Tied to poles. Some branches too heavy to support themselves. Pics.

    Pics from June 25th below.

This plant had some problems, looks like nute burn. Also possibly from over watering and/or a ph imbalance. May have had nute lock or damaged roots.

    Day 83 June 27th
All broken branches fixed. Burnt plants looking better. Raised shorter plants to gain additional light. Took out top lair of soil on almost all. Soil in burnt one is not getting much dryer. Roots may be locked or damaged.

    Day 85 June 29th
Watered with Big bloom 1 tbsp/gal on all dry ones. For several healthy added 1 tsp/gal overdrive. Pics

    Day 86 June 30th
Burnt ones looking better. all plants have big fan leaves pointing up.
42 days since flowering cycle(mh switched to hps, light cycle changed from 24/0 to 12/12).
36 days since first sign of hairs/pistols
29 days since hairs/pistols became very noticable on all.

    Day 90 July 4th
Watered dry one with 1 tbsp/gal big bloom. noticed 2 seeds forming on cola.

    Day 91 July 5th
Watered all dry ones with 1 tbsp/gal Big Bloom. Burnt plant's soil has become dryer and added water to it also. May Stop all all nutes soon.

    Day 95 July 9th
Watered all plants with no nutes.

Pics from July 10th This delicious nug may be ready for harvest in a couple weeks.

    Day 101 July 15th
    Buds getting bigger.
