Silverfish is a 12 to 35 millimeter long bug that is torpedo shaped and is either silver or greyish in color. It’s distinct features is its 2 antennas and it has no wings. It also has three antennae like features on its rear end. It moves in a fishlike motion. This is the reason why it is called silverfish.

  

 

Many people know nothing about silverfish. Sometimes, people would ask what a silverfish does inside at home. They have questions about whether it does harm to people. Are there any dangers attributed to having silverfish at home?

 

 

Fortunately, silverfish do not sting and bite. They have no poison. And they are not predators. Silverfish are known scavengers. This means they scavenge for food. So basically, silverfish will not directly harm you in any way. If it is harmless to you, then you shouldn’t react in horror when you find one.

 

The problem of having silverfish at home is that it attracts other bugs like centipedes, earwigs and spiders. This is because silverfish is part of their diet. And as far as anyone is concerned, no one would want to have these bugs at their home. They are horrible to look at and can be a shame if there are guests. 

 

Silverfish are known to cause damage to property. Given that they feed on starch and dextrin, they would feed on books, wallpaper, glue, book binding, clothing, leather, paper and many other things at home.
