A little about me...
Welcome to my new Web site! I recently created it in my Web 101 class at Sessions, an online school of web & graphic design.
Over the last 20 years, I have been employed in the printing industry in a number of roles ranging from graphic design and pre-press, to offset press & color copier operator, to shipping & receiving and just about everything in between. During this time I also completed a BA degree at UFV majoring in Social, Cultural & Media Studies. Soon after graduating, I taught English as a second language (ESL) overseas for two years, and I'm currently teaching part-time at an immigrant service agency, and as a volunteer at my church. I've also had the privilege of travelling around the world, and working as a volunteer with a number of Canadian non-profit agencies including World Vision, YWAM and the Salvation Army.
For many years I've had the desire to get into editing or publishing in some capacity. I've recently come to a place in my career path where a kind of convergence has taken place, and I will soon be embarking on a long-term project to begin designing and developing new curriculum for social studies courses, adaptable for use in elementary and ESL schools and programs across Canada. This kind of project will not be possible without the right ingredients, some of which will include:
- networking with education agencies and organizations involved in teaching social studies
- collaborating with people of similar interests and professions
- utilizing a variety of writing, editing and designing skills
- maintaining a clear and wide vision of Canadian society in terms of its history, development, and future
- deciding how best to communicate social issues to students using a variety of multimedia and new technoloogy
Some of the skills that I can bring to the table include:
- Professional and accurate research, writing,editing and proof-reading
- Web and graphic design, illustration, and photo editing using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
- Consultation on writing, editing, publishing, and/or printing processes and services
