Market-driven media has transformed journalistic news into sensationalized stories. Big time television networks bombard the public with "breaking news" that can completely misrepresent the gravity of any situation. Sensationalizing crime, especially violent crime, has become a staple of most news reports because of societies extreme interest in the topic. To test what sensationalizing the news can do to the everyday citizen, I conducted a survey of students here at the University of Georgia.
