A beginners guide to search engine marketing. Search engine marketing training is the process of using search engines like Google Yahoo and YouTube to bring your business product or service to the attention of businesses or the public who are looking to buy.
The key issue is to understand the phrases that businesses and people are inputing into search engines when searching for a specific product . It is the a process of maximising a website to be discovered in the top ten search returns for those popular phrases that were typed in to Google.
However, that is a long way from the end of the challenge. Once you are showing your website on page 1 of Google , you then have to entice the viewer to click on your site rather than others in the top page. Once inspecting your business website it is then a case of showing the viewer with an instant sense that you are a trusted authority in your business field, that you deliver exactly what you promised in the Google returns and demonstrate the consumer that it is seriouslyeasy to fulfil their ambition, often leading to sales.
Now you need to present excellent customer experience to any sale completed as well as top quality after purchase service. Does this look like an awful lot of work ? Well it's no more work than any profitable business needs to deliver and there are distinct benefits to an online entrepreneur, not least that they are small cost to establish and low price to run in comparison with other models of commerce.
So let's go back to the beginning for a second. Firstly we need to identify what phrases are being searched by the public that match with your enterprise. We do this with a free tool from Google called the Adwords Keyword Tool. It's easy to find online. You can input a selection of words and see how many people are searching those and similar terms a month online. It's an obvious way to select the phrases that you are going to optimise your business website.
Let's assume that you are in the line of selling car wheels. You see on Adwords Keyword Tool that one of the most looked for terms each month is “second hand tyres” and that's what you sell. So you agree that is the term you are going for. Before we go any further you need to appreciate the competition for that term and how much time and effort will be required to get your website on page one. You can see the competitors using another free tool which is a plug in for the Firefox browser . It's called SEO quake. Download and install onto Firefox. Now enable it. Now put that phrase “second hand tyres” into Google and press go.
You will discover that SEO Quake tells you essential information about the top ten entries on Google for the search term you input . Information like the age of the domain name , the number of indexed pages on Google, the number of inbound links and the Page Rank.
In my next article I will go on to explain how to understand these terms and assess whether it is realistic to get your business website onto Google Page 1 in front of the competition.
