Cultural Greatness
Their Government were based on a system called Feudalism where the king gives land to the nobles that are also called vassals which gave back military service to the king. If a vassal were to give land to another person then he became a lord. This was their way of settling disputes. Besides them having military protection the kind didn't provide schools or hospitals for their society. They also had the Magna Carta that made law making fair and gave peasants more freedom. The Government held the villages together cause without their structure the villages would be a huge mess and later on their would be new ideas that would give more justice to the peasants.
During the middle ages Church was a big for the people. It was the place to go and meet with friends to chat and socialize. The Church was very high powered they told all the people that they chose who went to heaven so the people were to obey. If people disobeyed and broke laws or didn't pay a tax that the church had they were excommunicated which meant they were sentenced to hell and could not talk to anyone. At schools they taught a lot about religion teachers for girls were nuns and the boys were taught by monks. Nuns and Monks were people who promised to God to be holy. Peasants lived on Manors which was a small village ran by a noble. Their culture kept the people together and made a better place.
During the Middle Ages new technologies came a long such as the heavy plows, the three field system ( two fields were used to farm while one field was used to raise cows and other animals) every year the fields would rotate their use in farming, then there was the use of horses and new harnesses, and lastly there was the wind mill. The three field system was used to cultivate and plant 66% of their land each year which also meant the more land =more crops = more food! Then there was the expansion in population which resulted in large trade networks, development of markets and fairs, and the commercial center. This made more jobs open up for people to work on farms at markets and fairs and even at trade centers.
During the Middle Ages many crisis happened simultaneously. Many had a deathly effect to them but the one that helped out the Middle Ages the most was The Hundred Years War this put a total end to feudalism and gave the peasants more power than ever. The war caused the nobles to pay farmers to work on their fields more and nobles also had to pay peasants to work so they could keep the place running. So this made their government system more fair with peasants having more power. |
