Traveling with my boyfriend, we toured throughout the Burgundy region on a quaint little boat trip. We made a decision to tour this area simply because it was in fact well away from most of the well-known tourist traps. The way it turned out, we had made a good choice because the getaway ended up being excellent and we got a chance to taste a number of scrumptious wines. Being a barge vacation, we lazily drifted along these really peaceful canals and enjoyed the charming scenery. The entire area that we journeyed through was renowned for its wonderful vineyards and wines. Wine is one of the big attractions and money makers for the villages and towns in this region as most out the countryside had lots of vineyards gracing the beautiful rolling hills. We were in France in June,and the summer growing season was only starting. Nearly all of the towns that we traveled past on our vacation were well renowned for their wines.
Nearly every wine shop in each town or village usually had some gimmick to get people in the door to try and hopefully buy their wines. Quite a few towns had received prestigious wine taste awards for their wines We had a pleasant buzz as a result of trying all the free wine samples.
