Dr Brian Geller Online Article

All women planning to breastfeed are advised to consult with breastfeeding professionals (lactation consultants), which are of particular assistance to woman with or considering implants, who can advise on what to expect. Women considering implants and breastfeeding are encouraged to discuss this with their surgeon to allow them to make choices so as to minimize damage to functional breast tissue and facilitate breastfeeding.

* Periareolar - an incision is placed along the areolar border. This incision provides an optimal approach when adjustments to the IMF position or mastopexy (breast lift) procedures are planned. The incision is generally placed around the inferior half, or the medial half of the areola's circumference.(26 January 2010 - Blog article Dr Frank Seinsheimer )

O In a process that can take weeks or months, saline solution is percutaneously injected to progressively expand the overlaying tissue. Once the expander has reached an acceptable size, it may be removed and replaced with a more permanent implant. Reconstruction of the areola and nipple are usually performed in a separate operation after the skin has stretched to its final size.

Diagnosis and treatment
A number of different instruments are available for the diagnosis of diseases and disorders affecting the retina. An ophthalmoscope is used to examine the retina. Recently, adaptive optics has been used to image individual rods and cones in the living human retina and a company based in Scotland have engineered technology that allows physicians to observe the complete retina without any discomfort to patients.
Dr Rodney Willey

There are two primary types of breast implants: saline-filled and silicone-gel-filled implants. Saline implants have a silicone elastomer shell filled with sterile saline liquid. Silicone gel implants have a silicone shell filled with a viscous silicone gel. Several alternative types of breast implants had been developed, such as polypropylene string or soy oil, but these are no longer manufactured.

The vertebrate retina is a light sensitive tissue lining the inner surface of the eye. The optics of the eye create an image of the visual world on the retina, which serves much the same function as the film in a camera. Light striking the retina initiates a cascade of chemical and electrical events that ultimately trigger nerve impulses. These are sent to various visual centers of the brain through the fibers of the optic nerve.( 07 September 2009 Blog article Dr Syed Rizvi )

List of eye diseases and disorders

There are many inherited and acquired diseases or disorders that may affect the retina. Some of them include:
* Retinitis pigmentosa is a group of genetic diseases that affect the retina and causes the loss of night vision and peripheral vision.
* Macular degeneration describes a group of diseases characterized by loss of central vision because of death or impairment of the cells in the macula.
* Cone-rod dystrophy (CORD) describes a number of diseases where vision loss is caused by deterioration of the cones and/or rods in the retina.
* In retinal separation, the retina detaches from the back of the eyeball. Ignipuncture is an outdated treatment method. The term retinal detachment is used to describe a separation of the neurosensory retina from the retinal pigment epithelium.[6] There are several modern treatment methods for fixing a retinal detachment: pneumatic retinopexy, scleral buckle, cryotherapy, laser photocoagulation and pars plana vitrectomy.
* Retinoblastoma is a cancer of the retina.
* Retinal diseases in dogs include retinal dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, and sudden acquired retinal degeneration.

Retinal blood supply
There are two circulations, both supplied by the ophthalmic artery . The uveal circulation consists of arteries entering the globe outside the optic nerve, these supply the uvea and outer and middle layers of the retina. The retinal circulation, on the other hand, supplies the inner layer of the retina and passes with the optic nerve as a branch of the ophthalmic artery called the central artery of the retina.[1] The unique structure of the blood vessels in the retina has been used for biometric identification.
The blood vessels in a normal human retina. The optic disk is at extreme left, and the macula lutea is near the center.\
