Putting in hours of preparation and focused study can always give best results, but all candidate must ensure that they have a proper strategy in place according to the syllabus and are aware of CAT Syllabus and Examination Pattern. This article will help all the candidates in their preparations strategy to clear CAT 2018.

CAT Syllabus includes three major areas: Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and English.

The most important step toward a preparation is to know the CAT syllabus and identify the subjects of your interests and weaknesses and make an individual strategy for them. CAT Syllabus is not easy at all. Students are required to give their best within a limited time duration. They may face several hurdles  while going through different subject areas. A coaching institute, an experienced guide or a mentor can always come to their rescue in such situations.

CAT question papers have sectional time limits, candidates have to answer each section in 60 minutes. Time managment during preparation and during exam will play the defining role. Students should plan to study 6 to 8 hours a day in shifts of two hours.

It is quite important to take tests and practice several mock papers and actual previous year papers, in order to get familiar with the time frame and pattern that is followed. At the time of preparation, candidates must do revision and take mock tests to evaluate their performance and reformulate their preparation accordingly.  Don’t  make random guesses and learn how to manage time properly. Don’t waste too much of time on one particular question.

CAT Syllabus Section Wise Preparation Tips

English

Student should get into the habit of regular reading of a newspaper and magazine which covers the contemporary events well. Listen to speeches or watch movies and/or documentaries with subtitles. This increases knowledge of spoken English and comes in handy while attempting questions on sentence completion.

English section has more reading oriented questions that are time-consuming. You should also practice as many reading comprehensions as possible for improving your reading speed and answering questions based on that.

Quantitative Aptitude Section

Students should brush up the basics on the fundamental topics. The only strategy for Quantitative Aptitude is to Practise, so practice as many mock tests as possible and do not use calculators while appearing for any mock/online tests.

Don’t waste too much of time on one particular question as you will have only an hour to solve the complete section.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning

You should spend some seconds over a question and study each question carefully. You should make a habit to read all the response choices carefully before choosing one of them. One of the good strategies in practising data analysis and sufficiency questions is presenting it in form of charts or pictures.
