Gothic really became a style associated with vampirism when Lord Byron, Percy Shelly and co. spent a summer in Switzerland at his estate where they lived
backwards, dressed all in black, composed morbid poetry and horror stories, and drank blood from skulls; this is frequently seen as the beginning of both the modern Gothic movement, and is inextricably with the practice of vampirism. Byron himself was almost certainly a vampire. His appetite for the dark, and the blood of his lovers was legendary throughout Europe and inspired many who would follow in his
footsteps. But enough on him. The style of dressing in all, or mostly black , keeping nocturnal hours, and drinking the blood of one's lover became an
alluring style through out the Victorian age. Men and women gave them selves to an austere lifestyle, dressed in black and frequented cemeteries in search of darkness.
