A wonderland of jagged snow-dusted peaks, waterfalls, glaciers and valleys located 113 miles east of Seattle is a place called North Cascades National Park. There is popular destination for those who like canoeing and kayaking which is Ross Lake in the northeast by the Canadian border. Furthermore   there is another place in the more southern part of the Park, Lake Chelan. It is surrounded by national forest areas and dense wilderness.

Below are just four main campgrounds in the complex of the North Cascades National Park. They are all accessible by car and located along Highway 20 with one accessible only from Canada and two that are more primitive in nature. All provide a singular way to enjoy the many natural features of the Park. Some campgrounds are designed for individuals or single families while others provide accommodations for group camping.


1.       Goodell Creek Campground


·         Located in Highway 20 just 13 miles east of Marblemount, at an elevation of 500 feet along the banks of the Skagit River amidst lush, old-growth forest.

·         With 21 sites in the campground that is suitable for smaller RVs.

·          Facilities include garbage service, drinking water, vault toilets and a covered picnic shelter.

·         Provides many opportunities for rafting and kayaking.


2.       Newhalem Creek Campground


·         Located along the Skagit River between the Newhalem Visitor Center and the town of Newhalem which is one mile further west along Highway 20 is the.

·         With 111 sites in the campground, many of which are available for those with RV rentals of longer lengths.

·         Has a pleasing dump station and recycling and garbage services that are provided at the campground.

·         Many interpretative trails and short walks link the campground to the natural and historic destinations of the Park.


3.       Colonial Creek Campground


·         Located on the shore of Diablo Lake at the base of the impressive Colonial Peak which is ten miles or so west of Marblemount.

·         Accommodates 142 sites with garbage and recycling services, perfect for RV rentals.

·         Provides opportunities for fishing and boating with trail and nature walks through Thunder Woods and Thunder Knob.

 

4.       Hozomeen Campground


·         Accessible only from Hope, British Columbia along Canada Highway 1.

·         Located along the north edge of Ross Lake at an elevation of 1,600 feet, deep in the mountains of the Park.

·         With 75 campsites and additional camping areas.

·         With opportunities for boating and fishing in Ross Lake.
