Celeb-tracking with Microsoft’s Snipp3t for iOS

Celeb-tracking has reached new levels with apps. Microsoft recognized the business behind the celeb craziness and are cashing in on it. Microsoft now has freed itself from the ‘serious business’ image to a lighter mode of celebrity tracking.

Snipp3t is a free celebrity-tracking app where users got to ‘subscribe’ to news and updates about their favorite stars. The iOS app developers make it to works as an aggregator that pulls in news and organizes latest headlines and also allows users to discuss about their celebrities with other similar subscribers. It comes with a Bing search engine to reach the celebrity of your choice.

The list initially started with a 100,000 celebs and then added an additional 2000 recently. The celebs are not just cine stars but anybody who is famous (even serial killers can be found on the list!). Though it may not contain all the known famous people dead or alive, the app does encourage to ‘Bing’ search or ‘send us a request for a celebrity’.

One good news is that it doesn’t aggregate based on trending topics or Facebook ‘likes’. It is completely people-based.

If users sign in with Facebook, the app automatically subscribes them to celebrities whose pages they have liked earlier. And one can also opt out of connecting the Facebook account. Subscribers can dig deeper by visiting the profile page that lists the bio, career highlights and other related celebrities.
