Meaningful Topics I Learned in CISB 11

To be completely honest, I feel like I have learned more than I signed up for in this course, and I couldn't be more thankful. My reason is simple, it's because when teachers and professors teach, most of the time they lack showing their students how the main concept actually has something to do with the real world, but when you really see something that's when you believe it. When we did an assignment on RFID tags, I could see the connection at once between that and computer information systems; however, it wasn't until you showed us that those RFID tags are literally a part of us that I really listened. This opened my eyes to how things can be done behind your back and even with so much time for you to learn about it, you still never do.

These days, having less power over our own privacy makes it very useful to learn about biometric access. I think that with criminal records climbing up to their highest and the economy reaching its lowest, there is so much more than we realize at stake. Let's say for example that one person's brother is shot in the middle of the night, the police are everywhere looking for clues and evidence, anything they can find; however, when there are ten shootings on that same night in that same city, the whole county  becomes involved. What I am trying to say is that by working together as a team, making team decisions and team changes, we are cornering our culprits, the unlawful citizens. We need to apply this biometric access idea somewhere we see fit. You know things are bad once your own identity gets held against you, and when things get bad you look for protection – this is our protection. You have to fight for your identity with your identity, it makes perfect sense.

Spreadsheets are another thing I would like to discuss, only I would like to talk about how much they have actually become accepted in society to be of aid to us. When collecting data, you need an input and output, along with organization and clarity. Without clarity, you can have rows of words and columns of numbers – all of which mean nothing. It's important to know how to organize in a manner where you take your audience's mind exactly where it needs to go. Having put that work into a spreadsheet is very rewarding, because you can almost always expect it to outdo what you put into it. There are tips and tricks, multiplication and addition, you can change backgrounds and make it you have the option of making it whatever you want it to be.

Lastly, as much as I like keeping in mind the simplicity that computers can be purchased at these days, I have learned to like their complexity even better. Learning about RAM, motherboards, hard drives, storage systems, memory, and internet security is so important that I wanted to learn it. The information we dug up may have not made so much sense at one point in time, but after putting those pieces of information together to create paragraphs, discussions, just anything opinion-based, that's when it all came together. I think that no matter how much experience one has with purchasing a PC, there are some things you just have to want to know.
