Essential oils for fleas

Everyone who is an avid fan of natural treatment has heard of essential oils and the medicinal qualities that are associated with them. But, unfortunately, that is largely where the bulk of the information ends. Other qualities associated with essential oils have not been given as much publicity and the result is that many people live with problems that could easily have been sorted out through the use of some essential oils simply because they do not know about those qualities of the oils. For instance, did you know that you can use essential oils to ward off and even kill pests and parasites such as fleas?

The two most effective essential oils for fleas are lemongrass and citronella oil. You can use these to make products that can drive away fleas, mosquitoes and other small pests and parasites. To make the repellant, simply take one drop of citronella, one drop of lemongrass and one drop of eucalyptus oil and mix them all together with one teaspoon of coconut oil. The resulting mixture can then either be applied directly to the skin just like a conventional repellant or sprayed directly into the air. When applied to the skin, its smell becomes too pungent for the fleas to come close and they keep their distance. Spraying it into the air directly send all the fleas in the area packing.

Some essential oils can be used to make a special bug spray that will kill any fleas or other bugs directly upon coming into contact with them. You can make this special homemade spray by mixing together orange essential oils with clove oil to come up with a mixture that will kill most bugs it comes into contact with. Since essential oils contain volatile compounds, getting them into the air as a bug spray is as easy as pie.
