Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

Brush some beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.

Place a slice of apple in hardened brown sugar to soften it.

When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn's natural sweetness. (Works for carrots, too.)

To determine whether an egg is fresh, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted water. If it sinks, it is fresh, but if it rises to the surface, throw it away.

Don't throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.



If you have a problem opening jars: Try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.

Potatoes will take food stains off your fingers. Just slice and rub raw potato on the stains and rinse with water.

To protect your cookbook during food preparation, slide it into a clear plastic bag. You will still be able to read the directions and any spills, drippings, splashes or splatters can be quickly wiped up

A neat way to keep recipes handy is to place them in photo albums, the kind with the peel-back plastic pages. For those who like to collect lots of recipes, try using different colored albums for different categories of foods.

To enhance the flavor of chili, try adding one ounce of dark chocolate for every four servings being prepared



When packing food for a picnic, try to use square or rectangular shaped containers, since they take up less space and stake easier in a cooler than round containers

What to do with a grease fire on the stove? Do not try to put it out with water. It is apt to splatter all over the place. Instead, try tossing some salt or baking soda into the pan. If possible, without getting burned, put the lid on the pan to smother the flames. Handle with care.

To get a broken egg off the floor, you might want to try sprinkling it with a generous amount of table salt. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes and then sweep it into a dustpan.

To keep you iced tea full flavored, make up iced-tea cubes in the freezer. When serving tea, use these cubes to keep things cool. They will not dilute the tea as they melt.

Oven Cleaning Time – to clean the oven racks, place them on an old towel in the bathtub and cover with a hot water and ammonia solution; A stiff brush might be useful to get at difficult areas.
