Municipal Opera Company of Baltimore

The Municipal Opera Company of Baltimore, Inc. was founded in 1991 to provide a venue for talented minority singers to perform grand opera. These singers would otherwise have little opportunity to perform major roles. The Company is open to everyone and is constantly seeking new members and supporters.

Since its founding, Municipal Opera has staged a total of nineteen operas (all performed in English) to include: Puccini's Suor Angelica, Gianni Schicchi, LaBoheme and Madame Butterfly, Menotti's The Old Maid and The Thief, Amahl and the Night Visitors and The Telephone/The Medium, Scott Joplin's Treemonisha, William Grant Still's A Bayou Legend, Mozart's The Magic Flute and Cosi Fan Tutte, Lehar's The Merry Widow, George Bizet’s Carmen, Leslie Adams' Blake, Arlein Straw and Helen Williams' Bent Twig, Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah and Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. In addition, the Company has performed scenes and arias and given concerts of music by African-American composers. This production is funded in part by The Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts, The Baltimore Festival of the Arts and The Baltimore Community Foundation. Municipal Opera is grateful for their support.

The Patron Membership is $25 - $49; Supporting Membership is $50 - $124; Benefactor Membership is $125 - $499; Donor Membership is $500 - $749 and Gold Circle Membership is $750 or more
