WhatsApp is rolling out a new Status feature to all users. Instead of the text-only status which lets people know whether you're busy or available to talk, the new Status feature uses photos, text, emojis and sketches to show what you are doing. If this sounds familiar, it might be because it appears to be motivated by Snapchat.

And unlike Snapchat and Instagram, WhatsApp can guard your Status updates with end-to-end encryption.

Here is what you need to know more about the new attribute.

When your account gets use of Status, you won't need to download or install a program update from the App Store or Play Store -- it will just appear.

You'll know if you have access to Status on iOS if the Contacts tab becomes replaced using a camera icon (see photo above), and also the far-left tab reads"Status." Android users will visit a new Camera icon to the left of the Chats tab, next to a new Status tab.

Who will see my Status?

WhatsApp includes privacy settings, giving you complete control over who sees your Reputation. By default, only your contacts may view your Status, however, the privacy settings allow you to change that.

With the Status tab selected on an iPhone, tap on Privacy. Android users, tap the menu button > Status Privacy.

You're given three choices:

My Contacts: All your WhatsApp contacts may see your Status.

My Contacts ...: Select the people you don't want to show your Status to. This shares your Status with the remainder of your Just Share With. . : Select only together with the contacts you would like to show your Status to.

Should you change your privacy preferences after uploading a Status, then keep in mind the new settings will only impact future updates.

Viewing your friends' Statuses is a lot like Snapchat

If you previously use Snapchat Stories or Instagram Stories, then you'll feel right at home with Standing. Here are the basics:

To view a Status uploaded by your buddy, start the Status tab. A listing of friends who have shared a Status will fill .

Touch the screen to pause Status, giving you additional time to view it, then tap to jump through a Status, or swipe left to go to the next individual.

Swipe up on a standing to reply to the the Status you are currently viewing.

. . .And so is updating your Status

WhatsApp Status includes all the familiar features of Snapchat and Instagram Stories -- decals, text captions, drawings and more. Here is how to update your Status:

To bring a photo or movie into your WhatsApp Status, open the program and tap the camera . Take a photo or movie, or select one from the camera roll.

You're able to draw, write and put emojis on the photograph. There's also an choice to add a caption that will be shown on the bottom of the photo or video as your contacts view it.

Finally, tap the paper plane icon. You may either send your Status directly to your friend, as a photo or video in a conversation thread, or you can tap My Status near the peak of the list to update your Standing.

Videos can go longer than 10 seconds

Rather than limiting your movie status updates to only 10 seconds (such as Snapchat), videos you capture and share as a Status can be as long as 45 seconds.

And you're able to upload GIFs!

In the year 2017, encouraging animated images, or GIFs, in a program is a necessity. Therefore, WhatsApp Status will take GIFs you have saved to your camera roll or photos program. Pick a GIF, trim it down if you want to, and discuss as you would a routine, dull, photo or movie.

Your Status will remain active for 24 hours, and it disappears.

Sadly, there does not seem to be a way to save a Status for your phone. Anything you capture and create WhatsApp is limited to WhatsApp.

Find out who is viewing your Standing

A view counter is put at the bottom of your screen, showing you how many individuals have seen or appeared at your own status. You are able to swipe up on the display to view a listing of contact names that have watched your Status.

You can get away with screenshots

Unlike Snapchat, WhatsApp doesn't alert you when a contact takes a screenshot of your Status. In other words, be conscious of just what it is you are sharing to your Status, simply because it disappears out of your Status after 24 hours doesn't mean no one saved a backup.
