Rodent Types


There are some different types of rodents that you should be aware of when you think you have a mice infestation inside of your home. There are three main rodents that become a problem inside of people homes and they are: house mice, voles, and Norway Rats. You can read more about each of these rodents here.

Depending on the type of rodent that is infesting your home, they exterminator will prepare a plan to remove them from your home and property differently.

What to Know about House Mice


Vole House mice are creatures of habit, meaning once they have established a home they do not want to leave. If house mice take over your home they will not leave without being exterminated. In fact, they will only multiply. It is very common for homeowners who have found house mice inside of their home to also find mice nests when they start looking around. Your home is the perfect place to live and breed for house mice and they will take over if they are given the opportunity.

What to Know about Voles


Vole Voles will target the outside area of your home. They are easily mistaken for many other small rodents so until you find their damage, you may not realize that you even have voles in your yard. They will eat the bark on small trees until they ultimately kill the tress. They also like to nest and burrow underneath of other small plants in your yard and will kill those plants as well. Voles often go unnoticed since they are burrowing animals. Pay attention to any burrowing channels that you notice around the plants inside of your yard. If you notice tunnels being formed or bark missing from your tress it is likely that you have a vole problem that will need to be addressed as soon as possible since they will kill your plants.

What to Know about Norway Rats


Vole Norway rats are the rodents that you see and hear about in the movies. They prefer to roam through sewer systems and eat left over meat from restaurants. Known for gnawing their food, Norway rats will eat almost anything that gets in their way. Norway rats are usually brown in color was a dominating nose and a tail just shortly smaller in length than their body. While they prefer meat, they will eat your pets food. Norway rats are not a rodent that you want around your home because they carry many diseases and are likely to bring them into your home. Norway rats usually only come out in the dark so if you are seeing them in the daylight you may have a problem that needs to be addressed. Some reasons that the rats may be roaming in the daylight include that they are overly comfortable, they are sickly, or there are so many rodents that they have no more room to hide and roaming in the daylight is their only option.
