When the Nissan GTR came out, it was a marvelous piece of technology to look at. True that the technology is basically the Nissan Skyline that was adopted by Nissan or Datsun way back but certainly it has taken worldwide attention with its great performance numbers coming out of its ears (or exhaust more appropriately). It has been tested in the infamous Nurbugring and it had taken the time of only 7 minutes to go around it. This is a number that is usually achieved by a car that goes for 80 thousand pounds or even more. The Nissan GTR on the other hand only costs 60 thousand pounds which should be more than what we would have expected for it.
The Nissan Skyline R32 did start the revolution when it showed its prowess despite being dubbed as a family car with a track day addiction. This is actually quite true comparing to what it can accommodate with its sedan variation paired up with the numbers the engine and handling can come up with. It would be funny to think that we can actually find one car that can be priced much cheaper than what Ferrari can come up with and yet have a car with that is half their prices (or maybe even less) go up against it and even possibly beat it. It has a modest V6 engine and yet it has turbo and quite an output compared to what the others can come up with. Another thing that made the GTR quite a car to be really is a force to reckon with. Back then we thought that the Skyline cannot get any better and as history would show it we were so wrong. We were shown how good the car can still get and we have seen it until they eventually dropped the Skyline name and just went with the GTR.
The project was so enormous that the car was dubbed as the “Godzilla” when it first started. The first thing that would come to your mind is that the whole thing is going to be huge. Eventually it went ahead and broke a number of records with its existence pretty much like the radioactive lizard that wreak havoc in New York City as the movie would show it. On the other hand, unlike the giant lizard the making of the GTR was not accidental. This is a car that came from years of planning and improvement from the older models.
