Reflection #2

Artifact #2

#2 Curriculum

2.3 Mathematics—Candidates know, understand, and use the major concepts and
procedures that define number and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement,
and data analysis and probability. In doing so they consistently engage problem
solving, reasoning and proof, communication, connections, and representation;

            The artifact that I chose to show that I have met this standard is the standard-based lesson plan which I developed for EDU 373 with Dr. Andrea Lachance. The creation of the standard-based lesson plan relied on my knowledge, understanding and ability to apply the major concepts and procedures that define number and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement,
and data analysis and probability. The lesson I wrote applied to geometry in particular. The lesson meets the following
New York State learning standards for fourth grade math: 4.RP.1 : Use representations to support mathematical ideas.  4.G.1 : Identify and name polygons, recognizing that their names are related to the number of sides and angles (triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon and octagon). I was able to develop a lesson that coordinates with my practicum setting and was also able to teach it.

          With this lesson, I feel that I am happy with myself as a teacher. This lesson that I taught to my fourth grade practicum students was relevant to the material they were currently covering in the class. I was able to, without any snags, able to teach this lesson. I know that it was effective because my practicum students were engaged and were able to meet the objectives of the plan.
