Geographically, our condo is towards the southern end of Myrtle Beach in a hamlet referred to as Socastee (saw-kas-tee).  Myrtle Beach's recreational area is commonly referred to as the Grand Strand.  We are in a condo development named the Preserve at Saint James.

The condo is outside the proper city limits of Myrtle Beach itself.  Surrounding the city are many tiny hamlets that may in years to come incorporate and become small cities or towns themselves, such as Socastee, Carolina Forrest, Garden City, Little River.  Even North Myrtle Beach is a separate area as well, and will probably one day incorporate itself as such. (You get a sense of local politics in the papers, and that North Myrtle Beach does not necessarily agree with everything the City of Myrtle Beach does…)   The City limits are very clearly marked for various traffic enforcement reasons.  (Very, very entertaining.)  However, the street numbering in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach is very confusing! Both places used a numbering system starting at one up to eighty-something. Myrtle Beach has South before the numbers, then as soon as you hit North Myrtle Beach, the number one starts again –with a North in front of it!  If you have a GPS device, I highly recommend it.  If the GPS hasn’t had its software updated in the last five years—it would be well worth the updates with all the new roads and routes just in the Greater Myrtle Beach area itself.  Our condo address is still not on a GPS device that we know of.
