Shane Mcmahon buys A.W.A. -2-8-08
Shane Mcmahon has announced that he has purchased the rights to the American Wrestling Association (AWA) and will be opening up the once bright and popular wreslting organization. The AWA was owned and operated by Verne Gagne back in the late 60's and was once a dominating force in the early 80's, but after some horrible decision making it died off Gagne sold the rights to Vince Mcmahon who was buying all his talent anyways. Now Shane Mcmahon has purchased the company and has opened AWA's doors once again.
"We have a lot to do in the many weeks, but we've taken care of the hard part by signing a contract to a major network, we will be focusing on Talent and Staff and look forward to an exciting road back to the top of the wrestling world!" - Shane Mcmahon
AWA signs with HBO! -2-10-08
Shane Mcmahon is making all the right moves for his new re-built AWA. Mcmahon has been in talks with major networks to host the AWA's signature show. The details have just been confirmed that HBO has won the bidding war against CBS & AWA's former and original network ESPN!. The AWA's flag ship show will be titled
"WRESTLING AFTERDARK" and will air live every Sunday Night on HBO from 9pm-11pm eastern time. When asked why he chose HBO rather than CBS or ESPN here's what he had to say!.

Shane Mcmahon: I thought CBS made more sense rather than ESPN for the simple fact that ESPN was only offering a 1 hour time slot and even though they would allow us to go on live every week the time slot was not what I was looking for. The more I looked at CBS the more it just didn't seem plausible for the AWA for 2 major reasons. CBS didn't want to allow us to go live every week. They wanted a taped show 4 days before they actually aired it! The kind of program I want to build is a say anything and do anything attitude, you can't say anything or do anything with CBS, ESPN, TNT, or even USA, they limit you. HBO jumped into the scene and they have the same vision for the AWA as I did, anything goes, say anything-do anything atmosphere was welcomed so after we talked about a time slot the rest was history. We've signed a 2 year deal with HBO with an option to extend after the first year!
AWA Talent Update
The Chairman of the AWA will now focus his time on building the perfect staff for the AWA. Mcmahon has been in talks with some major talent from TNA & WWE about long term deals. Indepent Wrestlers who work the indy scene are being scouted and the main AWA roster will be built around the besttalent in the wrestling world! AWA is now accepting applications with any Indy wrestlers and all are encouraged to sign up!
