Meaningful Topics I Learned in CISB11
This class was interesting I had started thinking it as a full semester, I didn’t realize until later that it was actually an 8 week class. I only kept because I wanted to know if the class would tell me if I would be interested in pursuing a career in the Computer Science division. What I realized is through the class I read certain things that interesting enough I has some knowledge on. Operating Systems interested me the time I spent research Linux opened my mind to understand where I wanted to look at down in the next couple of months. I volunteer a lot and there has been a website that I have actually wanted to pursue and complete. The OS I have come to realize could benefit one of my other volunteer organizations that will actually maybe allow us build things and create a system that really allows us to database some of our important jobs.
I have been researching databases for a while and have come to realize that with this class why go buy one. When in reality I can actually just create one there are at least two other sources in the organization that I am in that can help me do this. In a lot of ways it’s really exciting. I have learned a great deal in the last couple of days that I thought was a lot tougher.
I’ve come to realize that help is there if I remember to ask for it and I also learned that I shouldn’t be afraid to ask for it. Pursing a career in the computer technology aspect is something that has always intrigued me. I just have to find how to apply it or rather my self to it so that I head down in the write path.
I recently was told that I am thought as a renaissance man, which I never really thought my self as. I dabble in a lot of things and this class really opened my mind to a lot of possibilities. One of them was getting an e-book; I have never done that for any class. I will have to say that getting it online and utilizing it was great. However I did have to waste some trees so that I could actually utilize a copy to read from. I don’t always have a computer that will allow me to read it online, plus I really wanted it so that I can refer back to it as a reference.
The one thing that was hard for me was getting the Assignments in on time, I think I struggled with them more then I needed to. Overall I completed them and realized that easiest of all the assignments once I understood it was placing the Portfolio together. I even included links to my late assignment and the Final we had to write.
The
final I thought really helped put knowledge to the test and allowed me to
understand terms a lot better. I of course went over the 50 words to make sure
that I did it right; but that also opened another avenue for me. I like to
write stories and this class has opened my mind to new possibilities that I may
have thought about in the past. Now I feel that some of those ideas will
actually be put together and I know that it will be exciting for me to pull it
off in the long run.
