This battle took place on April 12-14,1861 in Charleston, SC.
Ft. Sumter is remembered in the American Civil War because the shots fired started the Civil War.
The capture of Fort Sumter by the Confederates caused a hole to be made in the
Federal naval blockade along the Atlantic coast.

The major objective of each side in the war:
Union- not to let their fort surrender
Confederate- to get the fort to surrender after trying for months

The Confederate side won when Anderson
(Union commander) surrendered the garrison

Maj. Robert Anderson was the Union leader.
Maj. Anderson attended the U.S. Military Academy.
Oct 1857 got promoted to major of the 1st U.S. Artillery.

The Union had a harder time in this battle because, they couldn’t sneak up on
the confederates and they had a limited amount of supplies in their fort.
The Union had 80 regiments

Brig. Gen. P.G.T Beauregaurd was the confederate leader.
Brig. Gen. P.G.T Beauregaurd taught at West Point Military Academy, and was 5th most senior general.

The Confederates were able to find their opponents very easily
and the guns the union side were using didn’t harm them.
The Confederates had 500 regiments

on the union side only 3 injured and 1 killed after a cannon exploded prematurely

No casualties or injuries on the Confederate side.
