Completing a locksmith training course is your first and probably your most vital step in becoming a professional locksmith. We have trawled through all the current locksmith training providers in the UK and have compiled a list of established locksmith courses with GENUINE testimonials.
You will find it difficult to buy professional locksmith tools without some kind of locksmith certification. If you complete a one-to-one course in someone’s shed, the certificate you receive may not be recognised by locksmith tool suppliers so it is best to train with a reputable company.
If you are found in possession of Locksmith tools by the police and you cannot prove that you are a locksmith of sorts then you could face criminal prosecution.
There is no official governing body for the locksmith trade which means there are no official locksmith qualifications. This also means that almost anybody can set up a locksmith training course and get away with charging large sums of money in exchange for poor quality locksmith training. This is the reason why there are so many locksmith courses out there and the reason why we have put together this locksmith training information page.
Once you have trained as a locksmith you can join associations such as MLA or ICL (conditions apply) which will cost you money each year but may help you to get locksmith work. However, you DO NOT have to join MLA or ICL to trade as a locksmith, it is completely optional.
