History & Background
Towards the end of the 19th century, Mikao Usui, a Japanese Minister embarked on a quest seeking knowledge and understanding of healing by laying hands on people, like Jesus Christ used to do. His search took him to Buddhist monks from whom he obtained special symbols for healing. After meditating on the symbols, he experienced a spiritual awakening and felt beautiful Light and powerful energy flowing through him. When he placed his hands on sick people, they became well, and so he knew he had been blessed with the power of healing.
Usui called this healing power Reiki, which in Japanese means ‘Universal Life Force’. He passed on this healing power to Chirjuro Hayashi who in turn passed it on to Hawayo Takata. Hawayo trained several American people, and from there it spread all over the world.
Reiki energy is a very
gentle force. In Indian and Hindu tradition it is known as ‘Prana’.
When a trained Reiki practitioner places his hands on a sick person,
Reiki energy flows through his hands into the body of the person,
correcting any imbalance within that person. It heals disease from its
root, which could be present in one of several places or bodies:
emotional, mental or even spiritual body.
Reiki involves the transfer of energy from practitioner to patient to enhance the body's natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of energy. Reiki utilizes specific techniques for restoring and balancing the natural life force energy within the body. It is a holistic, natural, hands-on energy healing system that touches on all levels: body, mind, and spirit.
Reiki, the energy healing system, is based on the belief that thoughts have the power to direct energy—the underlying dynamo shaping the world. Often described as a form of Shinto-Buddhist Qigong, reiki was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese, in the early 20th century. Dr Usui's initial task was to discover how spiritual leaders such as the Buddha and Christ were able to perform miraculous healing through mere touch without depleting their own energy reserves. A deep spiritual experience led him to devote several years to the study. During his quest he experienced an intense energy gratification, which had healing powers. He named this energy—Usui Reiki Ryoho. His disciples, after the World War II, popularized the concept and its practice in the West.
Reiki (pronounced as 'ray-key') is made up of two words—'
rei
' and '
ki
'. '
Rei
' can be interpreted as a higher form of intelligence while '
ki
' denotes life force. Taken together, '
reiki
' is understood to be a kind of universal energy. This healing system works by raising the vibrations, of the being or object to be healed, closer to that of the practitioner. Reiki is a multidimensional energy healing system, which can heal the cause of a problem at whatever level it may exist—body, mind, or spirit.
Brief glance about Reiki :
Reiki is cosmic energy [universal life force energy] and the technique is very old and highly Dependable one
Reiki energy is wholly independent from our thinking and hence ,if flows when “we” need it anytime, any where.
Reiki cannot be said to be given to anyone because ,the healee [taker] draws the appropriate quantum of energy through reiki channel i.e. healer [giver] at a given point of time. Hence, in reiki treatment, there is nothing like excess or shortfall.
Reiki energy is freely available to any person who is open to receive it by own self or when he/she asks for it through a Reiki Channel.
Reiki energy does not have any sort of monolith with regard to religion, caste, creed or race and it encumbers no constraints whatsoever.
Reiki channel is only a medium and the whole result depends only on the Taker. Hence, do not be attached to the result.
Do not Promise or guarantee any result (though we can). Of course ,we can assure the taker of “possibility” of result for which ,the taker is with Reiki sufficiently.
The person giving Reiki is known as Channel or Medium who does not get discharged of his energy either during or after he channelised the energy to the taker.
On the contrary, the Reiki channel automatically gets energized for the same duration of Reiki treatment given.
Reiki corrects the imbalance at all the 3 levels viz .,emotional (mental) level, energy level and physical level ;hence the relief or result coming through treatment sessions is proper ,appropriate and in the right direction.
Since Reiki harmonized all the 3 levels simultaneously, not only the taker is in peace with himself but in turn, he is also in harmony with others in the world.
Reiki can be given to all entities and non-entities for the best from them.Reiki can be given to one’s intentions either mentally or to a written form as well.
Reiki works on positive intentions and for positive result only; hence ,bad thoughts or intentions or diseases are not passes on to the person either receiving or giving.
In short we can say that Reiki is transferred to students by Reiki Masters through a series of attunements. During an attunement process, the Master selects a series of symbols, which represent important points located along a person's energy field, and guides them through higher vibrations of energy. This attunement process enables recipients to access the healing energy on their own—and in turn, help others to access it too
REIKI IS NOT
A Religion; a Race; a Language; Magic. Hypnotism; Mesmerism. In fact, it has no nexus with any Shastra or Dharma.
