2012-2013 St. Gabriel Leopards 5th and 6th Grade Boys Basketball

Coaching basketball at St Gabriel, and before that at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, has been such a joy for me over the past 17 years. I have been able to be a positive influence on the lives of 170 young men (give or take a few), and have taught them some life lessons as well as how to play the game of basketball. I never took this position lightly, and I have always given it my 100%. My time as coach has now reached its end. Since 1995, my winters have been filled with plays and stats, and the time feels right to pass it on. I have been blessed with a wife who not only tolerated this passion of mine, she shared it with me. I have been blessed with parents who did not undermine my plans with my teams, and always cheered us on even when they did not understand my method at the time. But mostly, I have been blessed with players who wanted to learn and who were not satisfied with just a "good" effort. I have had 11 league champions and 2 City champions. Several of my players have played in high school. Two schools have a good number of trophies in their cases from the teams I have put on the floor. But, nothing means more to me than to meet a former player down the road and to see that they have become a successful young man, following their passion, supported by their faith, and still holding on to some of the things I taught them about life. Our assistant coaches this year, Kyle, Austin, and Evan, are great examples of this. I leave with no regrets, and many fun, fond memories. However, I leave secure in the knowledge that the CSAA will survive without me, and so will St Gabriel! I appreciate your support this year for our team. This year’s team has been one of my favorites. Everyone on this team has been a good player and a fine young man. I have been honored to be their coach this year. My one final thing to say is GO LEOPARDS!!
