Finally Learn How To Get Streak-Free Windows

Pretty much everyone has at one point or another tried to clean their windows and ended up created long streaks across the glass. You are never going to feel like you properly cleaned your windows if they still have tons of streaks.

Now there are actually quite a few ways to clean glass of all varieties, but most people just don’t know them. They may understand that certain cleaners work better on glass than others, but they may not really know how to use those products.

Here we’ll show you how to get a streak-free shine, not just by using store-bought cleaners, but also by using items that are likely sitting around your house that you never knew could clean your windows.

Cleaning With Chemicals

Start with some hot, soapy water. You can use liquid dish soap in a bucket of water and wipe with a clean rag or cloth. Make sure that whatever you are using to spread the water and soap has no oils or dirt in it. The best time to clean your windows is when the temperature is mild and the sun is covered by clouds.

As you clean, be sure to clean every inch of the window. That includes the tracks along the top and bottom and the sides of the window as well. This won’t clean off everything, but it will get most of the dirt off your windows and make them look considerably better.

Now rinse the soapy water off with clear, clean water. Then dry quickly with a soft cloth. Cotton works best; just be sure to dry right away, as drying too slowly will create streaks.

You can use chemical cleaners instead of the soapy water or after you use the soapy water. It all depends on how dirty your widows are. If you haven’t cleaned them in a while, and there is a layer of dust or dirt, you would just be wasting your window cleaner for that initial clean. But if you just want to save some money or you don’t have access to a cleaning product, then soap and water will work just fine in most cases. Of course, that will depend on the type of glass you have. But most glass will respond well to this treatment.

Work as quickly as you can with the glass, the quicker you work, the less chance there will be that streaks will form. Make sure you have all your supplies handy to make quick work. This great cleaning site has lots more to show you too.

Cleaning With Other Items

You can use all sorts of everyday household items to clean your windows if you want to go that extra mile and get them extra clean.

Mixing vinegar, lemon juice, lime juice or orange juice with water can give you a very clean and natural shine. Once again, just clean quickly to avoid the streaks. Essentially, any citrus or acidic concentrated juice will work. Just dilute it a bit with water so it is not too strong.
