This is the flag of Japan. The red sun disk is used to symbolize the rising sun, for the kanji characters used for “Japan” literally mean “sun’s origin.

 

Japan is an archipelago of islands. Not a very large country, but large in population. Roughly the size of California, Japan's population of over 127 million people basically triples compared to California’s 40 million.


 


 

Travelling to Japan from Houston airports takes about 12- 14 hours. But despite the long journey, this culturally rich country is beautiful to visit and is easy to fall in love with.

Staying in Japan can be an adventure in itself. You may stay at a nice, Hilton style hotel and you may stay at an equally nice, yet more traditional hotel like this one below where you sleep on the floor on tatami mats. They aren’t very comfortable but the experience is amazing. Not to mention the communal bathroom!
