Will New Legislation Cost Texas Homeowners in Premature Plumbing Repairs?

The battle in Congress over the Senate Bill S 3874 was a bitter one, but it passed the house on Friday by a margin of 226 to 109.  Some see this as a well deserved, and much needed, win for water quality safety.  This is an issue for all those concerned with plumbing Kingwood.

Others however, see the bill as going too far and being much too extreme in its requirements.  One of those opponents of the bill was Congressman Tom McClintock who felt that the bill was much too radical in it's requirements and will place an undue burden on property owners to comply.

According to McClintock as posted in the Auburn Journal the bill:

"Redefines "lead free" under such Act to mean: (1) not containing more than 0.2% lead when used with respect to solder and flux (current law); and (2) not more than a weighted average of 0.25% lead when used with respect to the wetted surfaces of pipes and pipe and plumbing fittings and fixtures. Establishes a formula to calculate the weighted average lead content of a pipe or pipe or plumbing fitting or fixture."

Many older homes will not meet these new requirements and will require services such as plumbing repair Kingwood residents will find to bring their home up to the new code.  While the full details have not been totally hashed out, typically this is a requirement when the home is sold and a new loan is made on the property.
