THE MOTHMAN

The Mothman was a creature that appeared in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Over a hundred witnesses reported sightings of a large monster, nearly 7 feet tall, with glowing red eyes, gray scales, and wide wings. The Mothman could reportedly effect electronics, cars, and the minds of people that saw it. It mutilated animals and protected small children. The most prevailing consensus of the Mothman is that it arrived in Point Pleasant as a warning, just thirteen months before the tragedy of the Silver Bridge collapse that killed 46 people. Throughout those months, from November 1966 to December 1967, many sightings were reported, including descriptions of the Mothman flying up to 100 miles an hour and interferring with televisions and radios, as well as chasing cars along the roads as the creature flew through the air. Many of the sightings occured at TNT, a widelife preservation that was popular with teenagers. There were also several sightings at the North Power Plant and the Lowe Hotel. Since the collapse, no more sightings of the Mothman have ever been reported in Point Pleasant. As for the people who saw the Mothman, some weren't fortunate. A couple were institutionalized for mental illness, a few even committed suicide, many filed for divorce, some aquired sudden, rare illnesses or died from diseases that killed them unusually quickly. While there have been sightings of creatures similar to the Point Pleasant Mothman in other locations, they are considered to be unrelated and the Mothman of Point Pleasant remains a legend all its own.
