Leo Rosten said, “The purpost of life is not to be happy—but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you have lived at all.” That is one of my favorite quotes. I now that I can make a difference through nursing and help at least one person breath a little easier, sleep a little more comfortably, and sigh with relief. I want to become a nurse so that I can make a difference in the world—no matter how small.

Being a Registered Nurse is going to be perfectly suitable for my lifestyle. I love helping and taking care of others, which are the basics of the job. As a Registered Nurse, I will be helping people improve their lives and their health on a daily basis. Nursing offers a variety of flexible shifts and scheduling options so work can easily fit my life. As a nurse, I will be able to choose to work full-time or part-time. I can also choose a four, eight, ten or twelve-hour work shift. Sometimes, I will even be able choose the exact dates and hours I will want to work. Therefore, my nursing career will not consume me; it will simply be a major part of my life.

With an average starting salary of $39,000, I will be able to live comfortably. I will not have to stress financial security. Also, as a nurse gains experience and improves performance, the pay rate will increase, allowing me to maintain a more comfortable lifestyle. As of right now, I plan on getting my Associates of Science which will make me eligible for a job as soon as I graduate. Once, I am settled at a facility and start making income, I plan on returning to school to further my Nursing education and training in order to get my bachelor’s degree. Since education level also contributes to salary, once I attain my bachelor’s, there will be an increase in my annual income.

The nursing activity that I anticipate the most is taking care of individuals and helping them achieve their maximum health. Twelve hour shifts, however, will probably be the burden to the Nursing occupation. Yet, even the smallest burden of working for twelve hours cannot outweigh every other gratifying element of Nursing.

I know I am meant to help people from every walk of life. I am patient and caring, astute, and efficient. Nursing fits my personality and will grant me financial stability. I am excited to begin my career as a nurse. I have never wanted anything else.
