Southern New York Model Railroading

SITE OVERVIEW

Editor Kaylon1943:

There is a long and old history to railroading that started in the 19th century. Railroads has been a part of our lives since its start and has been the driving force that has made the USA, what it has become today. We look at the long trains on there way to all parts of the country carrying materials and people to destinations every where.

They are powerful and loud. We watch in amazement as they go by. Such power and motion, the sound of the horns, the flashing lights and bells at the crossing. Whether it as a diesel or for some of us old folks, the steam engines of the past, they all have captured our imaginations.

Model Railroaders are by nature, dreamers and empire builders. We all have one thing in common and that is the ability to see something that isn't there and create it!

I have seen many sites on Model Railroading and have come away some what miffed by the lack of information for any hobbyist. I plan to dedicate this site to you, the novice, a great start to finish primer for the hobby.

With that in mind, here are some of the most basic questions through to the advanced Modelers how to's. For instance what does Code 55, 83, 100 mean and how does it affect you, when building your layout. How big should the track radius be? What is a #6, #8 turnout and why the difference.

These questions are so basic, but can cause you to rebuild or waste time and money when building your first layout. Whether it be 0, S, HO, N or Z scale, we will endeavor to answer all the questions, to make your Model Railroading experience a happy one. At this point I want to tell you that this hobby, once started goes on for the rest of your life. Change is always going to be a part of your hobby.
