The Strength of the University is the establishment of NATIONAL CENTRE FOR ADVANCED RESEARCH IN DISCRETE MATHEMATICS (n-CARDMATH) which is Fully supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi, n-CARDMATH is the only centre in India devoted to research in discrete mathematics. The centre is headed byDr. S.Arumugam, Director (R&D), Kalasalingam University, who is the coordinator of the project, and one of the leading experts in discrete mathematics and founder of Graph theory in India.
Kalasalingam University is the only University which aims to rejuvenate research in the country through the International Research Centre (IRC), a unique facility that spans 1 lakh square feet, dedicated to research in materials sciences, energy and computing. Most of the equipments at the IRC cost crores to procure and set up and are only available in one or two other locations in the country. This centre receives continuous government funding for research projects, of which 27 have been completed and 16 are ongoing. Among the many patents filed by Kalasalingam University, 28 of them are primarily through B.Tech Students’ project work.

Kalasalingam University has established TIFAC-CORE in Network Engineering (TNCE) under the mission REACH program of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. This centre was setup at a cost of Rs. 16.4 crores with active participation from industries including CISCO Systems, Nortel Networks, IBM, Tyco Electronics, Fluke Networks and others.
This centre offers short term courses to UG students in the areas of CCNA, SUN Certified System Administration (SCSA), SUN Certified Java Programmer(SCJP), Security+, RedHat Linux, Certificate Course in Networking, Wireless Networking, VLSI Design, SCADA, Embedded Systems Design and Industrial Automation.
Kalasalingam University offers B.Tech programmes for speech and Hearing persons which is unique in India.
To enable mentors and students to acquire practical experience in computer systems, network operations and information protection to encounter cyber threats Kalasalingam University has established National Cyber Defence Research Centre. This centre focuses on building Science and Engineering foundations for Cyber Security and Forensics. The Cyber Defender Programme creates a pipeline of qualified candidates in Cyber Security and Forensics to address homeland security needs.
