Things You Should Know About Socializing In Spain

Every country in the world has its own way of doing things. When you are in a foreign country, you might see things that are not usually the case in your own. In Spain, there are things that you should know especially about socializing so as to avoid getting surprised or even embraced when you are in the country on holiday.

One thing you should know is kissing. It is a Spanish custom for the people to kiss their acquaintances, friends and family on the cheeks when they meet up or even as they say goodbye. One male may kiss the other especially when they are very close or members of the same family. Firm handshakes are also a common thing so do not be too surprised if this happens. The firm handshakes are also quite common in Italy and France.

Spaniards can be very physical while they talk. You may notice that while they talk, they may do things like pat your back, a hand upon your shoulder and so on. You should never misinterpret this as it should be taken as a sign of friendship. Colleagues, relatives as well as very close friends are known to do this. It is quite a common sight in Spain so do not be too surprised as the Spaniards are quite keen about the physical contact.

When it comes to the pregnant women as well as the elderly especially in a car, they are always expected to use the passenger’s seat. This is also a custom in Spain but they may ride elsewhere upon their own request.

You may be in Spain purposely for business. When you have appointments, try to keep time. While Spaniards cannot be categorized as punctual people, lateness will not go very well with most people. Always try to arrive on time at all times so as to carry out your business smoothly.

If you do choose the home of a Spaniard as an accommodation facility, be sure to bring with you footwear to wear inside the house. You can carry a pair of slippers with you. This is because the Spaniards don’t fancy walking inside the house barefoot as they consider it unsanitary as well as a very easy way of falling sick e.g. catching a bad cold.

While at the beaches, you may notice women sunbathing topless. This is ok in Spain so do not be too surprised. It is a very common thing especially in areas that are common with tourists. You can also stumble upon full nudity especially on the beaches which are nudist or those that are “clothing optional”.

Planing A Tour Spain

Planning a holiday in Spain is something that should be taken rather seriously. This is because the secret to enjoying any holiday is actually to plan it to perfection. There are many areas that can be toured and so selection is rather necessary. The requirements in one area will highly depend on the area of interest.

Beach holidays are very popular in Spain and it is actually where Spain’s tourism originated. The facilitators of these are the beautiful beaches as well as the good weather experienced in the coastal regions. Some areas have been known to enjoy up to 330 days of sun and therefore the sunshine is in plenty all year through creating the perfect destination for the whole family.

If you are going for a beach holiday then it is advisable that you should carry all the materials as well as clothing that is specific to your holiday. Carry some extra clothing as some areas may experience rain even in the summer months and it is better to be ready for anything. Beach holidays are also the best for water based games and if they hold your fancy, choose an area that has the facilities.

If you opt for a holiday in inland Spain then there are still very many options open for you.  Explorations are renowned all through Spain and you sure will have a great time if you plan well.

Take care of the accommodation details. You wouldn’t want to be un-rested during your holiday. It is also good to know that the town and city centre areas are quite noisy. If you prefer a more quiet accommodation facility, try to check in the outskirts. Chances are you will be able to find something worth your while.

You may also opt to give the planning responsibility to someone else. If this is the case, you should look for the many agencies that are in play in Spain. They will help you with planning even the little details and also advise you on all the places that are worth visiting. The best thing about agencies is the fact that they will also be able to provide you with tour guides so that you will have the most informed time while in Spain.

Take care of the currency change before going to Spain. Work on a budget by trying to find out all the rates that are in operation. While looking for accommodation, also be sure of the security in the area in question. Compare prices between hotels so as to get the best value for money.

Visa Policies In Spain

Spain is a member of the Schengen agreement and also the European Union (EU). The two are the governors of visa policies in Spain as this means that Spain has signed treaties with some countries which are parties to these two. For the member states of the EU, there is no visa required while entering Spain. Also members of countries that have signed treaties with the European Union in general do not require visas to enter Spain. Residents of Schengen agreement countries to which Spain is party are also not required to produce visas when they travel to Spain.

It is important to note that not all the EU nations are parties to the Schengen agreement and also not all Schengen members are parties to the EU. This therefore simply means that some of the Schengen members are actually countries outside the EU bracket thus in away the base is widened allowing more people easy access to Spain.

These visa policies go a long way into promotion tourism and economy of Spain to a great extent. This is because the EU and Schengen countries are highly encouraged visiting Spain as they know it will be easy. They also know that the procedures put for them are easy to follow thus are able to tour Spain freely.

Here are many countries that fall under the bracket that does not require visas to be able to enter Spain. The countries nationals except for the members of the EU cannot stay more than three months in Spain in a period of some 180 day. This is mostly applicable to countries that are covered by the Schengen agreement. They are also not allowed to work while in Spain during the duration of their stay.

In 2004, a list was issued stipulating the countries allowed to enter Spain without visas. The countries included: Estonia, Hungary, Israel, Antigua, Canada, Brunei, Chile, France, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Vatican city, Uruguay, Venezuela, united kingdom, Sweden, Ireland, Singapore, united states, Slovakia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Romania, Paraguay, Slovenia, Poland, Bulgaria, south Korea, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Japan, Luxembourg, Greece, Honduras, Israel, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, panama, Italy, Andorra Australia, Latvia, Argentina, Mauritius, Seychelles, Bahamas, Cyprus, and Austria, among others.

It is however important to check whether your country has been added to the list or removed so as to make the proper arrangements for your travel. For those travelling form some Latin American countries, hotel reservations is a necessity and it should be confirmed. An international insurance should also be put in place depending on the duration of time you intend to spend in Spain.

In Spain, there are police of four kinds. These are the Policia municipal, Policia national, Guardia civil as well as Policia Navarre. Policia municipal can also be called the metropolitan or local police. In Barcelona this police is referred to as Guardia Urbana. The police uniforms differ depending on the region especially from one town to the other. Normally the police wear blue or black clothes with a cap usually blue and a blue short that is usually pale. The cap may be replacing with a helmet and usually has a blue and white strip. The cap or helmet is usually checkered.

The metropolitan police are usually given the responsibility of maintaining laws and order especially the traffic in cities. If you are in need of directions, these are the people you should approach as they can never mislead you. In case of a theft, they may assist you and take you to the Policia national although reporting totem is not official.

Policia national are usually in clothes that are a dark blue and a cap that is also blue. At times they may wear a baseball kind of cap. The responsibility of the Policia national is to deal with all crimes and offenses that may be reported. Other police may also assist when an offense needs to be reported. The Policia national caps are not checkered with a flag.

The other kind of police is the Guardia civil. Normally, their responsibility is to keep the outsides of cities in order. They may be spotted standing on guard at some official buildings or even on patrols at the roads. The Guardia civil wear green clothes. Some may even wear a black helmet but many use white helmets and green caps.

Spain has political autonomy than many regions in the world. This has led to four of the autonomous regions to create their own law enforcements. The forces are complete in their own sense. These are the people who may be able to offer genuine help in case you need it.
