What is Conservation?

Conservation is defined as the planned management of a natural resource to prevent exploitation (conservation, 2009). In other words, conservation is like saving: because resources are limited, we want to be able to save them and only use what we need.

Conservation is one of the most important ideas in the field of sustainability because it encourages us to take careful stock of how much we are using and where those resources are going. By assessing our usage habits and making efforts to save the resources we have, we can ensure our supply lasts as long as possible.
