With every new hunt there is a new thrill.  I always feel the anticipation every time we go out to see what new coral there is to explore or fish we might see.  I started spearfishing in September of 2008 and have found it to be one of the most exhilarating experiences I have ever had.  From Uluas to Uhu and Mu to Uku there are always fish out there that are prized above the next and you just can’t wait to try for every time you are out on a dive.  There are many tricks to the trade and you just have to start picking them up as you go along and see how well they work.  Spearfishing is a sport and is made so by those who freedive. A freediver is a diver who does not use oxygen tanks but only uses “breath hold”. In other words the diver holds his or her breath to stay beneath the surface of the water and stays down only for as long as their lung capacity will allow.  So far I have only been able to reach depths of approximately 70 feet.  Many out there go much deeper.  Spearfishing has become my stress release and although I would recommend it to anyone it is definitely not for everyone.  If ever in Hawaii and want to try it sometime look me up I would be happy to take you out for a wonderful underwater experience.
