5 Must-Have Accessories for Bikers

Bikers know that they have a cool but affordable way to get around town, all with a minimum impact on the environment. Maintaining your motorcycle will keep it not only looking great, but in perfect running condition.

Every biker needs a special set of tools to help them keep their motorcycles in the best condition, or to help them out when there is an emergency on the road.

Here are 5 must-have accessories for bikers.

1. Flat Tire Repair Kit. The advantage of motorcycles is that you can drive them to remote locations that don’t fit a car. But if you experience a flat tire, you could be stuck. A flat tire repair kit is essential.

This kit contains patches, plug insertion tools, hole cleaners and glue, and a pressure wheel with surface preparation tools for plug trimming. Now you can do your own repairs and be on your way.

2. Multibit Screwdriver. A screwdriver is a great tool to have, and useful for tightening screws on a cycle. A multibit kit usually has at least six different interchangeable bits.

Bits should vary between a Phillips and a flathead, from 1/8 inch and down to 1/16 of an inch. It’s helpful if the handle has a rubber coating for a better grip.

3. Motorcycle Wheel Chock. The wheel chock is a metal device that fits under your front tire. It lifts it a few inches off the ground and has many purposes. You can use it to keep your bike standing upright, without using the kickstand, so you can do maintenance or check its fluids. It also makes motorcycles safe for transport on a truck.

The Motorcycle Wheel chock is simple to use. All you have to do is drive or push your front tire on the chock and it will self-lock. The bike is now held securely. You can then attach tie downs between the front fender and tire.

4. Snap-On Torque Wrench. The snap-on torque wrench will tighten any loose fasteners on your cycle. Look for features that will click when it reaches that correct torque.

These wrenches can vary in cost, and you may wish to purchase a kit with different sizes. Many have a range of adjustment from 30 to 150 lbs, and common sizes are from 5.1 and up to 6.9 spline heads.

5. Flange Lock Nut Screws. Nothing is worse than losing some screws while you ride and having to figure out how to make do. But a screw kit is affordable and can easily be tucked onboard your motorcycle’s stowage.

Screws are available in different color options, including titanium, gold, and multi-colored. Check and ensure you buy the right size, such as M5. Buy a high-quality screw that is high-performance, and corrosion-resistant. Screws should be lightweight but still possess high strength.

Keep an assortment of tools ready for your next motorcycle trip. You never know when you may need a screwdriver and screws, a torque wrench, wheel chock or tire repair kit, but you’ll be confident that you can get back on the road quickly, even if you face an emergency on the road.
