I.                     Position Title:  Executive Director; Non-voting member of the Board of Directors

 

II.                   Position Summary:  The Executive Director is the Chief Operating Officer of Indianapolis Rowing Center (“IRC”), appointed by and serving at the pleasure of the Board of Directors. His/her primary responsibility is to provide vision, management, and leadership continuity for IRC in a cooperative, unified, and open environment that also seeks to increase the diversity of IRC’s membership.  He/she is responsible for developing programs, systems and tactics to implement the Strategic Plan adopted by the Board of Directors. In carrying out his/her responsibility for the success of IRC, the Executive Director hires the appropriate staff; maintains the organizational structure and operating climate which encourages staff to perform effectively; continually reassess plans, programs and goals to determine their appropriateness under varying conditions; delegates authority to responsible staff and committee members and holds them accountable for agreed upon results; and ensures that approved plans and programs are carried out and effectively implemented. He/she is responsible for managing all aspects of the Juniors and Masters rowing programs at IRC. He/she is responsible for coordinating fund raising, sponsorship, and grant proposals for the organization to support the non-paying programs, and working with the Treasurer to manage the operating and capital budget on a day-to-day basis. He/she is responsible for the implementation of appropriate safety and risk management programs and for supervision of the upkeep, maintenance and repair of all IRC facilities and equipment.

 

III.                Qualifications Desired:

 

·         Experience as a collegiate or masters rower

·         Experience in coaching sweep style rowing (USRowing coaching certification, Level II, or above, preferred)

·         Experience at community networking and implementation of recruiting programs

·         Experience with fund raising and/or sponsorships

·         Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to a wide variety of members and other constituencies

·         Excellent organization skills

·         High energy level and passion to make IRC one of the Best rowing centers in the united states.

 

IV.                Compensation:

 

·         Competitive salary and benefits offered, with the potential of an annual bonus upon achieving objectives, as established jointly by the board and the executive director.

·         Four (4) weeks of vacation per year ( does not carry over to subsequent years )

·         Non-contributory 401 (k) plan.

 


 

V.                  Detailed Listing of Primary Duties:

 

·         Implement the IRC Strategic Plan

·         Official spokesperson for IRC and responsible for effective community networking and recruitment programs, with an emphasis on increased diversity in the IRC membership

·         Management of all aspects of the IRC Juniors and Masters rowing programs

·         Responsible for insuring effective management of all regattas hosted by IRC, including determination of the regattas that should be hosted (and will be profitable)

·         Responsible for building a first-class coaching program, with particular emphasis on the Juniors, and may serve as head coach of the Juniors rowing program

·         Manages the day-to day operations of the IRC Water Sports Center, including management of all upkeep, maintenance and repair of all IRC facilities and equipment

·         Develops annual budget, subject to approval of the Board of Directors, and responsible for all operational and fixed asset expenditures within the budget

·         Maintains regular and effective communications with the Board of Directors, volunteer leaders, members and others having relationships with IRC, including the Indianapolis Department of Parks and Recreation, USRowing and the NCAA

·         Responsible for all personnel matters and the implementation of appropriate personnel practices, including all hiring, development, discipline and termination matters

·         Manages annual and long-term fundraising, gift and sponsorship programs

·         Manages all financial and tax reporting, including not-for-profit property tax exemption filings

·         Manages all safety and risk management programs, including establishing appropriate procedures for obtaining prior written releases from all members and others using IRC facilities.

·         Maintains the official records and files of IRC and develops appropriate procedures to insure that duplicate copies are available at a separate location

·         Keeps abreast of best practices and implements innovative programs and procedures to keep IRC among the best community rowing programs in the United States.
