Ice Fishing 2006-2007
We started out fishing at Lake Lacey the first time that I had ever went ice fishing. It was bitterly cold and I had no idea what to expect. We fished this spot using wax worms and little jig heads. We failed misserablly. The next day was more of the same except we went to Lake Sugema. We went to My uncle Louies farm ponds the following weekend and caught a lot of bluegil and one crappie we fished 3 differnt ponds. One of the last weekends we had to ice fish we went to Lake Arrowhead and caught a few bluegil. We were pretty new to this kind of fishing so next year we will do a lot better.
Fall 2006 The fishing never really stopped from fall to winter. The weather stayed fairly warm (or at least not freezing). Me and Kyle kept on fishing through the weather. We had many great memorable moments fishing. The bait of choice was Chicken Livers and worms. We went out one night to Lake Arrowhead to fish for catfish and that proved to be the moment that kept us fishing the rest of the year. We went to Arrowhead threw our lines in the water and waited. The night was frigid and it was getting dark. Anyone who knows Arrowhead knows you have to walk about a half mile to get to it. So thats when we decided to start a fire and just wait it out on the bank. We really didnt have anything else to do that night anyways. Well about a half hour after it was fully dark. Tap Tap Tap on the line and Yank I had the first Cat 4lbs or so. Then it was Kyles turn He pulled the Biggest Channel out that night Near 10lbs. I got the next one it was around the 4-6lbs range. While Kyle pulled the next and final one out. These were 4 of the 9 that I was involved with in catching last year. I also had set trotlines in the Lake that Fall and caught 5 Really nice Channel Cats.
Summer 2006 We did a lot of fishing this summer. We started the year out very slow, but from late July to late October we were on the water just about every day. We had our fair share of big fish but we also had days when all we caught were bluegil. The main place that we fished this year was Lake Sugema. We did have a lot of luck fishing from about 5:00pm to 9:00pm and on the nights that we would stay out later we did catch a few smaller catfish. But like always you take the good days with the bad days when you fish. Fishing is the one thing in life that you can fail at and still have a great time doing it. Lake Sugema The 574-acre lake is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, black crappie, channel catfish, and saugeye. Extensive planning was done by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to establish underwater structure that helps fish survive and reproduce. More Info
