The bond of protection Raksha Bandhan is a hindu festival , which celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters as well as on the full moon of the month of shraavana . But in modern time it can be celebrated as a social binding or as a friendly knot .The festival is obvious for the tying of a rakhi , or holy thread by the sister on the right wrist of her brother. The elder brother in return present a gift to his sister and promise to take care of her same while an elder sister returns gifts to her younger brother . The brother and sister conventionally provide for each other sweets . History narrate that Rani Karnavati of Chittor propel a rakhi to India for the Mughal Emperor Humayun when she was in danger by Bahadur Shah of Gujarat . The word "Purnima" means a full moon night .In western India and parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa this day is famous as Nariyal Purnima where an offering of a coconut is offered to the sea , as a blot of admiration and respect to Lord Varuna , the God of the Sea . In southern & Central parts of India means in Kerala, Tamil Nadu , Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Orissa , this day is famous for the Brahmin community as Avani Avittam . In central parts of India including Madhya Pradesh , Chattisgarh, Jharkand and Bihar this day is famous for Kajari Purnima which is an important day for the women and farmers blessed with a son . In the region of Gujarat , this day is famous for Pavitropana when people do the grand pooja to worship of Lord Shiva.
