It is as of November 2011, that no new applicants for parents or grandparents will be accepted while the processing still goes on for a period of 24 months. A new option has been opened for the parents and grandparents of the citizens of Canada and the permanent residents. This is referred to as the Super Visa for Parents. This is an all new option for them to visit Canada
The criteria for being eligible for the Parent and Grandparent Super Visa are:
the applicant should be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
parents and grandparents of dependents are not eligible
the applicants may also meet some terms and conditions
the officer in charge must believe that the applicant is a genuine visitor to Canada and will leave by choice at the end of the visit
There are some things the concerned officer may consider
the purpose of the visit
the financial situation of the person’s family
the person ties to his or her home country
the economic and political stability of the home country
any invitations from the Canadian host
The Super Visa for Parents is one of the important programs that has been started by the Canadian Government. There are certain things that the parents or grandparents of the Canadian citizen should do:
complete the medical examination for immigration
a medical insurance for at least two years to cover the time period he/she will be in Canada
a letter promising financial support from their children or grandchildren in Canada.
