  1. Flutter drills: this drill is most important for learning the freestyle and Ocean Surf Training Sydney . If you are floating in the water in a prone position with your legs extended and feet pointed. To flutter kick, alternate kicking downward with one leg like kicking a ball while moving other leg upward and so on. Then start moving downward with your hips and slightly flex your knee downward. S that the water pressure pushes your foot in an extended position in water. The water pressure will extend your legs during upward movement and push your foot in a half-flex position in water. Some instructions which you can follow to learn drills are;
  • Hold onto the pool edge, push off the ground and keep your head above water. You need to straighten your arms
  • Repeat previous exercise but this time put your head down in the water
  • Repeat previous exercise but this time your body gets horizontal and hold your balance onto your fingertips.
  1. Balance drills: this drill introduce you to make balance when you are trying to learn freestyle. The first balance drill is Head-lead supine balance, means that your body is perfectly horizontal in the water that reduces drag and save energy. The second balance drill is head-lead prone balance that is designated to teach you balance in a prone position in the water. This is a good type of drill to learn how to keep your legs and hips close to the water surface. The third balance drill is head-lead side balance drill. In freestyle you spend more time swimming on the sides that makes you faster in the Open Water Swimming Training Sydney. This is because you are rolling more on side and use larger your back muscles. The forth balance drill are head-lead nose up/ nose down drill in which you keep your balance in the water while rolling between different positions. The fifth balance drill is head-lead looking down drill in which you learn how to maintain horizontal balance while rolling from side to side. The sixth balance drill is hand-lead side balance drill that helps you to learn freestyle swimming more on your sides to improve propulsion. And the final balance drill is hand-lead noise up/ noise down drill that lets you to practice balance floating on the side with one arm into a particular position.
