There are both good things and bad things about paying for web traffic. On the pro side, you can start seeing visitors to your website very quickly but on the con side, if the visitors aren't properly targeted then it could be like flushing money down the toilet. So... first lesson of the day: KNOW YOUR MARKET!
When targeting a specific market for you offers it is always recommended that you do your research. With good market research, you can determine the need for your service or product,it's likelihood to sell and the target markets demographics which would include things like gender, age, location ect.
After doing some research it's time to place your advertisement. There are thousands of places to purchase ads online like Facebook, Youtube, Adwords(pay-per-click) you can even contact blog owners and place a banner ad on one of their sites. My personal favorite is using solo ads when I buy website traffic. A solo ad is a special mailing to an ezine's list that promotes a single product or service. Find out which method you feel most comfortable trying and give a go.
Helpful Tip: if you are unsure about how well your offer converts I suggest you start small when purchasing your ads. You wanna test your offers and see whats working and whats not then you can tweak to optimize for profitability. Like most things in life it's all a numbers game. If you can generate $15 from a $10 ad you purchased I would consider that pretty good.
After you know your stats and you figure out whats working then it's all a matter of scaling up.
