T       The 1940's was a decade that was full of strife. One of the most brutal wars raged on in the Pacific and in Europe. As the allied forces fought for the Freedoms of The European citizens another struggle for freedom and equality was fought on the home front in the U.S. Due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, any citizen of Japanese decent was arrested and placed in concentration camps. The U.S. treated its own citizens as enemies. Additionally, African Americans were still treated as second class citizens and segregation was still institutionalized. There were many people who fought against these injustices during the 1940's. For example, Fred Korematsue was imprisoned in a concentration camp, but took his case to the supreme court. Eventually he was able to have the Supreme Court recognize the injustice he and other prisoners received. Another individual became a crusader for equality and civil rights A. Philip Randolph  become one of the most prominent civil rights activist during the 1940's. He organized unions and called for a massive civil rights movement.
