Nearly every day, and usually more than once per day, somebody receives a summary death penalty on the spot by a police officer. Somehow, the people have been lead to believe that gun-related crimes are going through the roof -- while they are on the rise, the perpetrators of said crimes still deserve their day in court. That's the way the laws were written for a very good reason. The police do not have any right to kill, for any reason, including self-defense. It's not a job for the faint of heart or a family man. It's a job for somebody who wants to put their own life on the line to protect the other guy -- yes, even the guy threatening you.

It's time we changed that. The People are to remain armed if they wish. The Police must be disarmed, and thoroughly trained in the ways of martial arts, and verbally subduing an assailant. Much like we don't allow a random person with an obsession for anatomy to perform surgery without ten or more years of training, a police officer should be a respected position with an equivalent training period and pay. Should a police officer kill to self-defend, or more often to retaliate, the result should be the same as it would be if a surgeon decided to kill a patient because he didn't like him. If you're an officer, your job is to protect others -- not yourself. To serve others -- not yourself. If you think that's disrespectful, I think you need to resign.
