Code Of Ethics

Analytical Report

The code of Ethics, for the most part in general explanation, pertains to matters that humans encounter in every day life, on the surface of it. It pertains to things that stem from honor, respect, truth and balance among other things. The website which I took the information from (http://ethics.iit.edu/codes/coe/inst.electrical.electronics.engineers.assoc.computing.machinery.software.engineering.html) explains the code of ethics based on eight principles with three levels from the surface to the more in depth codes pertaining to more technical aspects of this part of the industry.

If I were a professional in this industry, yes, I would agree with this code of ethics. The reason for this is that after reading through the information provided about the code of ethics from this organization, I find that some of the issues which are addressed here should be followed by businesses worldwide as well as people. Things such as this make the industry more honest and less unreliable. Likewise, when a technician or other person follows the code of ethics described here, they benefit themselves from this. The reason that I say that is obviously when someone is good they receive a good reputation therefore bringing about more business. People can be dishonest and make more money by not following some of these standards, but I strongly feel that it will not end well for them.

Yes, I feel that other professionals in this industry would agree with this code. I do not have immediate access to the opinions of professionals in the industry, but I feel that they would say that there are not enough issues addressed here, though the issues addressed here are addressed properly.

Through out this code of ethics there are things here and there in other principles which I find do not pertain to other industries. After reading through, I feel that Principle 8 has the most. Principle 8 discusses the issues regarding self, which in general covers things pertaining to the advancement of themselves as well as the industry, while at the same time, staying away from causing others to fail or be noncompliant.

Linux

By: Aaron Denton

Origin and History of Linux:

At the University of Helsinki in 1991 there was a 21 year old named Linus Torvalds who began to work on an MINIX which became Linux OS overtime. After a certain amount of progression Linux no longer was part of MINIX and was capable of further development on its own. GNU applications were freely provided and able to be used for growth with Linux. Linus Torvalds switched and attained a commercial license which allowed him to utilize GNU to make Linux into a completely operational OS. Linus Torvalds had said that if there was a GNU kernel before he began his production of the Linux OS he wouldn’t have had a need to go through with it.

Linux Distributions:

Linux distributions are basically built on top of the core which is the Linux kernel and depending on what type of distribution or who, contains various amounts and arrangements of application software programs which run through the Linux OS to the user. For the most part there are Linux programs which are driven by corporations, communities and a certain few which are driven by neither. As far as I know the only one that most people use which is not from commercial or community is Slackware. Fedora from red hat is a commercial distribution and Debian is a community distribution. Fedora is basically an OS which main focus is to provide updates available to all Linux distributins. Debian is an OS which primary focus is to maintain the codes and standards of free software and is also geared toward the further development of Linux OS.

Attaining Linux Distribution and Installation:

There are a few different ways that you can have one of the many Linux operating systems on your computer. One of the ways you can have a Linux operating system on your computer is by downloading it for free off of the internet. This is very cost effective and there are not many problems that you would think you would encounter with something of that nature. However, there are Linux operating systems which can be bought at a price but are provided with some degree of tech support. Linux distribution installation is done by downloading the operating system directly on to your computer whether free or paid.

Popular user application/suites:

There are several various user applications that you can use on the many Linux operating system. One of them is Mozilla Firefox.  This is a web browser most frequently used on apple computers. Another would be Openoffice.org , this is an application which is used mainly for things such as reports, PowerPoint presentations, word documents and other forms of publications which are formed to help the everyday tasks of life as well as the businesses we work with everyday run a lot smoother as well as the student and many other things as well.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Linux:

Windows in comparison to Linux operating system is much like comparing a dog to a wolf. A dog can attack viciously, though a wolf uses the vicious attack to eat everyday. Microsoft has much more technical support for people much like myself who might want to do something such as consolidate the files on the computer or defragment the hard drive but do not exactly know how to do so without having someone or a book say what is what. Likewise Linux has a higher level of stability when it comes down to servers being able to do what they are supposed to for long periods of time.

Storage.doc

3 manufacturing companies assignment.

http://www.wdc.com/en/

Hard drive Manufacturer: Western Digital Corporation

Operations and major products.

On April 20th, 2009 a 2 TB, 64 MB Hard drive which main focus was on green power technology was added to the product line of this company, and was reported on by the NYSE. On June 16, 2009 the company began to sell the Silicon 3 product line which had faster speeds and increased capacities in comparison to earlier models. This model utilizes mechanical scalability for smoother operations on various applications. On June 24, 20009, the company released a redesigned model which is used for network storage called the My Book World Edition 2 Dual Drive network storage which has capacities of up to 4 TB. One of their major products is an external storage device called the My Book Mirror Edition. This is a dual drive storage system which utilizes raid mirroring and comes in capacities of 1 TB to 2 TB. Another product is the My Book Studio Edition external hard drive, which can hold up to 2 TB and can utilize a quad interface. There are many models and another which I would like to mention is the My Book Essential Edition. It has a capacity of up to 2 TB and utilizes a USB 2.0.

Favorite Product.

My product of choice is the WD elements portable hard drive. This hard drive utilizes a USB 2.0 and has a capacity of up to 500 GB. One of the good things about this type of hard drive is that it has a plug and play capability and is powered for the USB which would make its use a little bit more easier when I only need one receptacle. Another good thing is that even though it is preformatted for PCs it can be reformatted for use with Macs. Like all other external hard drives it has the abilities to store what I consider at this time mass amounts of information. So I  could use it for many things including music programs. I consider this to be my favorite product because of the fact that I spend most of my time in my car and something like this could be of great use to me.

CD/DVD writer/player Manufacturer: Hewlett Packard

Operations and major products.

HP as of June 26, 2009 will give attention to the environment. A boat made out of used plastic bottles named Plastiki will set sail for Sydney, Australia from the San Francisco. HP is the official technology provider and has dedicated 10 energy efficient interactive computers for the public to use and learn about energy efficiency as far as what is better for the environment. After searching for this kind of product it came through with 4 types of writers all capable of CD and DVD. The first one is the HP dvd1140i 22X PATA Multiformat DVD Writer. This is a high speed internal drive, double layer writer. It runs around $60.00 and utilizes lightscribe to label discs. Another is the cHP dvd1170e External Multiformat DVD Writer. This drive runs around $100.00 and is a high speed external drive. Another one is the HP dvd555s 8X External Multiformat DVD Writer. This drive is very thin and runs around $85.00. The last drive that I see is the   HP dvd1170i 22X SATA Multiformat DVD Writer. This is a high speed internal drive dual layer device which runs around $65.00.

Favorite Product.

My favorite product of the four of these would again be something which is small and easy to move. The HP dvd555s 8X External Multiformat DVD Writer is the smallest drive and is externally mounted. It can record to single or double layer DVDs and DVD RAM. And allows the user to create slide shows and backup music and data as necessary. It is compatible with windows 2000 sp4/ xp sp2 and vista 32 or 64 bit. It has a read speed of DVD-ROM up to 8X (CAV); CD-ROM up to 24x (CAV). It also has a write speed of DVD+R up to 8X (ZCLV); DVD+RW up to 8X (ZCLV); DVD-R up to 8X(ZCLV); DVD-RW up to 6X (ZCLV); DVD+R Double Layer up to 6X (ZCLV); DVD-R Dual Layer up to 6X (ZCLV); DVD-RAM up to 5X (ZCLV); CD-R up to 24x (ZCLV); CD-RW up to 24x (ZCLV).

Flash Memory drive (USB) Manufacturer: Kingston Technology

Operations and major products.

Kingston technology is affiliated with OEMs and semiconductor and system manufacturers in areas of engineering, testing and chip validation among other things. The company is built more towards the designer/ builder over the average customer. They make flash drives for the average consumer/ enterprise and government. For the consumer there is the Data traveler 150 which has a flash drive storing capability of 64 GB and runs around $220.00.

Another model flash drive is for the businessman who wants only himself to be have access to the flash drive and it is called the Data Traveler Vault. The user authentification is done by a privacy encrypted zone. For the government there is the FIPS 140-2 with 256-bit, hardware-based AES encryption and device lockdown after a specified number of invalid attempts for starters.

Favorite Product.

My favorite product is the Data Traveler 410. This device features capacities up to 32 GB and has ready boost technology. After reading about that in the book I consider that to be a plus because anyway I can increase the performance of the computer which I will operate will benefit me greatly. It also utilizes password protect so I can put documents on there which I do not want others to have immediate access to such as journals and what not. It has high transfer speed if I decide to purchase that extra so I can again increase the capacity of my actions which I will take with such a device. I would say that for $200.00 price range that is very good.

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-random-access-memory.htm

This web page from this website begins by discussing how RAM are small chips inside of the computer which are faster to access than getting information from the hard drive. It then discusses how RAM is volatile and defines the meaning of that term. It also states that once the computer shuts down the data in the RAM goes to the hard drive and then when the computer boots up it loads the files it should at start up as well as programs the user may have immediately clicked with out waiting for the boot up process to be complete. Like the book it discusses how some motherboards are not compatible with high performance RAM chips and so a new motherboard may have to be purchased if truly needed. It also speaks of nonvolatile RAM being available in the future.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/ram.htm

This webpage from this site is very different. It begins by explaining how RAM is  considered to be random access because you can access  any memory cell directly if you know where the cell is located exactly.  It then discusses how the opposite of RAM is SAM because it can only be accessed sequentially. It then explains how SAM is preferred for a memory card because of the sequential process and talks about how RAM is random access again. It then speaks about DRAM and how a transistor and capacitor are paired together to create a memory cell and how the capacitor holds the bit of data while the transistor allows that data to be read.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/random-access+memory

This webpage from this website is good for someone who did not have prior knowledge of RAM. It says how RAM is used to perform necessary  functions while the computer is operating and how all data inside the RAM itself is equally accessible. It then speaks of a term called RAM disk which it says is a virtual drive that created by setting aside part of the RAM to use as if it were an individual group of sectors.

I would choose the WinTV-HVR1600 over the other 2 TV tuner cards I investigated. The main reason I chose was because the cost was still very high in comparison to the Sabrent SBT, it had overall better performance and higher capabilities. For the most part I like the fact that it did not need a television signal in order to work. It also has the ability to record shows on a scheduled list and can be controlled from a remote location via the network connection to my computer. Not being very well informed about tv tuner cards when I was comparing the WinTV-HVR1600 with the TVW650PCI HD 650 it seemed that there were higher warranties for a higher cost but less data on the actual performance of the card itself.
