The Health Care Reform Bill
Mood:  incredulous
Topic: Politics

The Heath Care Reform Bill is nothing more than the insurance lobby's attempt to get their hands into the pockets of those of us smart enough to opt out of health insurance.

Think about it.  Unless you contract a catastrophic illness, how long will it take for you to use the thousands of dollars you spend on health insurance every year?  Put that same amount in a few interest-bearing CD's, and if you need it, you've got it, and if you don't need it YOU'VE got it, not the insurance company.

And they're telling us the premiums will be something we can all afford.  How is that measured?  But wait, if we can't afford the premiums, Uncle Sam will print some more money and subsidize it.  So now the insurance companies have A) forced everyone to contribute to the system, and B) gotten a blank check from the government to charge what they want.  With the aging population, more people will need services, so prices will increase with demand, and we will be no better off than we are today.  The only one benefiting is the insurance companies, who will then have more capital to play with.  And the execs will get bigger bonuses.

I broke my ankle awhile back.  EVERY bill was adjusted down to some degree because I was paying cash.  The orthopaedic surgeon offered to let me pay $50/month till he was paid!  No interest, no finance charges...just straight up $50/month, and that was their offer, not mine.  Needless to say, that doc was high on my list of financial priorities!
