Where I've Been

I was born and raised in Rockland County, NY.  I have lived in Westchester County for the past three years. After attending Binghamton University, I started teaching and have been teaching for the past ten years.  And I’m still enjoying it!

My Life as an Educator

I believe science is both a noun and a verb.  I enjoy doing demos and lab activities to help my students think critically and form conclusions.  I enjoy teaching both chemistry and biology.  One of my favorite lessons to do is finding the percent of fat in fast food.  It is relevant to their lives and interesting to see.  We blend up meals from Wendy’s, McDonald’s, and Burger King and have the food sit out.  The next day they observe the layers of fat that separated out.  They find the percent fat in each meal and compare it to their own predictions.

When I'm Not Working...

I enjoy reading, movies/TV, hiking, and spending time with my family and friends.  I enjoy going to Giants, Rangers, and Mets games.  One of my favorite series (and can’t wait for the second movie) is the Hunger Games.  I also can’t wait to Walking Dead comes back.

Web Sites I Like

Here are three spots on the web that I enjoy/use in my classroom.

  • The Review Game Zone has tons of different review games for topics in all different subjects from social studies, English, to science.

  • General Chemistry Online has notes, outlines, and review questions.  This is a great supplement and study guide for the course.

  • Cracking your Genetic Code is a PBS video that looks at genetic diseases and the pros and cons of knowing your genetic code.
