I did hemodialysis for about a month and then I started peritoneal dialysis. I did that until February 11th, 1997 when my Mom gave me her kidney. Thank God for my wonderful Mom. She had to loose 60 pounds and get her blood pressure under control before the hospital would do the surgery and she worked so hard, it only took her 3 months to do it. Her kidney started working in me right after they hooked it up, The doctors told us that they were amazed at how well the transplant went. Mama and I call it her super kidney. It has been over 13 years now since the transplant and I am hanging in there. I have lived to see my daughter grow up and go to college and had many wonderful times since my transplant. I am extremely thankful for the time the transplant has given me with my family and friends, The thought of going back on hemodialysis makes me almost start to cry, I would not wish kidney failure on my worst enemy. I am thankful for the good days. Even though I don't feel good a lot of the time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy my dogs. I enjoy how beautiful God made our beautiful world. I enjoy watching the hummingbirds on my porch and sunsets. I enjoy going out to eat or shopping or just driving around to see what I can see.
